Consortium

PMD-AI is a co-promotion R&D project carried out by three complementary entities: two companies and one non-business research entity. The collaboration brings together deep technological capability, hands-on experience in managing complex multi-project portfolios, and a clear reading of the market for funded-project services.

Invisible Lab — project leader

Invisible Lab is a technology lab focused on projects with open research problems in blockchain systems, cloud computing, large-scale data management and privacy, artificial intelligence, and web and mobile application development. It developed StayAway Covid for the Portuguese National Health Service — a mobile application with more than 3 million downloads that monitored potential Covid-19 exposures privately and anonymously — and gave key early support to Utrust, one of Europe’s most successful fintechs. It has also built Web3 products and security technology adapted to decentralised environments.

Its management team includes two PhDs whose work centres on large-scale distributed data management, with participation in major European projects such as H2020 SafeCloud, and who are co-inventors of a US patent on a new secure and private storage mechanism. Invisible Lab holds ANI’s Selo ID recognition and is also executing the BCD.S+M co-promotion R&D project with INESC TEC.

In PMD-AI, Invisible Lab leads the technical work: intelligent automation and data security, the automatic configuration of the platform, and the integration of AI tooling for historical data analysis and actionable predictions.

ICBAS — University of Porto

The Abel Salazar Institute of Biomedical Sciences (ICBAS) is a multidisciplinary organic unit of the University of Porto dedicated to teaching, scientific research, culture and service to the community, creating and disseminating knowledge across medical and health sciences, biological and environmental sciences, exact sciences, animal and veterinary sciences, and bioengineering and biotechnology. ICBAS hosts the Multidisciplinary Unit for Biomedical Research (UMIB), an FCT-funded research unit, and collaborates with research institutions such as i3S, CIIMAR and ICETA.

Its Research and Technological Development Support Office manages more than 40 projects with specific characteristics, and brings to the project direct experience of the challenges of multi-project management, requirements and metrics definition, and compliance with applicable rules and regulations. ICBAS leads the requirements work and the validation of the prototype in a relevant environment, and supervises the collection and analysis of the data used to train the AI models.

Solvian Group

Solvian Group is a company specialised in financial consultancy supporting the management of, and access to, funding for company investment projects. Having recognised that long-term growth and scalability required a commitment to R&D, it hired specialists in data science and began developing its own technology, including an AI-powered virtual assistant with a sector-specialised decision tree, training mechanisms, context detection and sentiment analysis, able to answer thousands of distinct questions about obtaining funding.

In PMD-AI, Solvian Group is responsible for defining market requirements and modelling practical use cases, ensuring the solution adapts to the specifics of different calls and project typologies. It also contributes to the design of configuration templates and workflows and leads the dissemination and technology transfer activities.

Revenue and exploitation

The consortium foresees a model for sharing the revenue generated by the platform according to each entity’s effort in market access, promotion, implementation and technical support. Solvian Group takes on the greater commercial dedication and risk and a central role in operationalisation, while Invisible Lab is responsible for the integration, scalability and stability of the technology, as well as for possible secondary applications of the technology developed.
